Further Mathematics, A Level
Challenge yourself with one of the most respected A Levels and develop advanced mathematical skills that are highly valued by universities and employers. Studied alongside A Level Mathematics, this course is ideal if you enjoy solving complex problems and are considering a future in mathematics, engineering, computing, physics, or finance.
Course Overview
Further Mathematics A Level builds on the knowledge gained in A Level Mathematics, allowing you to explore more advanced mathematical concepts and techniques. During the first year of your programme, you will study A Level Mathematics before progressing to Further Mathematics in your second year, giving you the strong foundation needed to tackle more challenging topics.
You'll develop advanced analytical, logical, and problem-solving skills while learning how mathematics is applied to real-world scenarios across science, engineering, technology, economics, and finance. This highly respected qualification is excellent preparation for degree-level study and is particularly recommended for students applying to competitive universities and courses.
Based at our Sixth Form Centre at Loxton Campus, you will study in a purpose-built environment designed to replicate the experience of higher education. You'll be taught by experienced mathematics specialists who are passionate about helping you achieve your full potential, while our dedicated Tutor Learning Mentors will support you with study skills, exam preparation, university applications, and career planning.
As part of Weston College's Career Excellence Hub, you'll have access to employer talks, university events, networking opportunities, and enrichment activities designed to enhance your academic experience. Mathematics students also have the opportunity to participate in UK Mathematics Trust challenges, Maths Inspiration lectures, employer presentations, and university preparation sessions. During your first year, you'll also be able to follow an enrichment pathway, including options such as Young Enterprise or Mathematics, helping you develop valuable skills beyond the classroom.
